Hello friends & family,
We are trying a new blog here.  I will try to copy what we attempted in another location. This blog is about our first time to visit China.

Friday Cali time thru Friday noon China time, was spent flying over the Pacific via Hong Kong.  I lived in Hong Kong in 1971-1972 so it was special to me (J) to land there again.  It was very overcast so we did not see much but it brought back sweet memories.

Our new "home" here for 2 months is very interesting.  Some things we see remind us of other cities in Asia we have lived or visited.  This is a huge, modern, very Western city and yet, our particular area is poorer and does not look so clean or modern. We have not yet seen another white-face person and we have been out and about walking in the neighborhood. We get a LOT of looks. Here are some photos from our first day on the ground.
This photo shows the street entrance to the school campus where Rod will be teaching (I will be his helper in the English course).

This is a side street we walk along to get from our hotel to the school campus.
This is the same side street as above.  There is a large field of grapes being grown...beside Rod.  Behind Rod is a prison which is directly across the street from our hotel. So, if Rod were to turn around and face the prison, he would walk straight ahead to our street, and turn left to return to our hotel.  It is a 15 minute walk between the campus and the hotel.
