Second day of classes
Today we knew we had to keep the students more focused and more actively engaged, at least in the English course. Monday's English started after lunch, which is a sleepier time. Today we started at 8:30am so that helped, although we have some students who stay up late and are very sleepy in the morning. All in all, it went much better. We are definitely playing tag-team where Rod mostly leads, but I (Jean) sometimes launch an activity or teaching point. During Rod's technical course, I stand mostly at the back of the room--tapping students who fall asleep or who pick up their phones. to chat or play video games. It is like herding sheep, but I think they are seeing we are holding them accountable to "Be Here Now". We are also beginning to learn a few of the students' names. Rod's ability to add some Chinese to help explain things has been a BIG help!
